Leader name

The name of the programme Leader stands for the French acronym „Liaison Entre Actions de Développement de l'Économie Rurale" (Links between actions for the development of the rural economy).

What is Leader?

Leader is one of the four initiatives of the Community (the other cover INTERREG, URBAN, EQUAL) designed to introduce and test new approaches and concepts in implementation of important measures as well as to integrate them into the key EU programmes. 

Goal of the Programme

Leader - is a programme targeted at rural development to encourage local initiatives and partnership between various rural development actors. The programme aims to help rural inhabitants to improve the quality of life in their rural areas and economic well-being through implementation of integrated rural development strategies on a territorial basis. 

Objectives of the programme

- To encourage local initiatives and partnerships through involving the community, business and local government representatives;
- To bring together rural inhabitants and develop their capacities for collective actions;
- To devise integrated rural development startegies and organize their implementation by making the best use of local resources and public support based on new methods and approaches.
